More Laver at the AO

Turns out Rafa hasn’t been the only one brushing elbows with Rod Laver at the AO. ESPN got an interview with the tennis legend and another tennis great, the mighty Fed. There’s also a transcription of Laver’s interview with the press on the AO’s website.

Speaking of Federer, The Slice has posted some seriously adorable photos of his twins at the AO, too cute!

Behind the Scenes at the AO: Hawkeye

This short video is a great behind the scenes look at Hawkeye. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re even a little bit curious what happens once a call is challenged.

Just the Fuzz: This and That From the 2012 Australian Open

Rod Laver is back in his home continent visiting this year’s AO. He had a little meeting with Rafa, and, fortunately for us fans, the folks at the AO got a video of the two tennis greats together:

There’s also this great video of Laver’s interview with the press. He reflects on changes in the game, Hawkeye, Lleyton Hewitt and Bernard Tomic. On linesman in his day: “you look back and the linesman is asleep.” Laver seems to be a genuinely charming guy, the type you could sit down on the porch and have a nice long chat about tennis with. It’s great to see him back at the AO.

The WTA is talking about reducing all the shrieking happening in the women’s game. While I understand how it can bother players, it’s never bothered me as a fan, and I’m a little surprised it bothers other fans this much.

Caroline Wozniacki + baby kangaroo = cutest tennis related video ever

Can the city of Melbourne please come up with some new ads for next year’s open? That song is starting to drive me crazy… I want to know…

Tonight’s line up looks awesome: Clijsters v Azarenka, Sharapova v Kvitova, and, the icing on the cake, Nadal v Federer. I don’t think I’ll be getting any sleep tonight!

My first post. The very idea of the first post feels awkward to me. How to begin? I guess I’ll just dive right in:

I sort of abandoned my love for tennis for a while. Tennis and I just seemed to need a break. I’ve missed it. It’s always been on the back of my mind to start playing frequently again, or at least start following the pros more. I took my racquet with me everywhere the past two years. Dragging in along with me for my brief move down under, and then back, and then back down under again. I rarely managed to use it. And yet, there it was. Somewhat of a reminder of my true self, of who I am. After all, I’ve always said one of the reasons I love tennis is that I feel most like, well, me when I’m playing.  It’s time to get back on court.

So, why the blog? Mostly just to have a place to let out all my tennis thoughts. Also, to encourage myself to write more and learn more about computers. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
